How to: Cisco MDS 9000 Zoneing

How to: Cisco MDS 9000 Zoneing

Do you know how to zone a Cisco MDS? Personally I started with SAN Switches from Brocade. Maybe some of you know the Java GUI. Nothing wrong with this, but we all know there are better things than Java 😉

So let’s start on Cisco MDS CLI:

  • show zoneset active or show zoneset active vsan [your vsan]

  • clone active zoneset and edit the new one
  • create zone
  • add members
  • add zone to zoneset
  • save

#show zoneset
show zoneset active vsan 5

#enter configuration mode
configure terminal
#clone zoneset
zoneset clone prod_2016-05-24_1500 prod_2016-05-27_1600 vsan 5

#mark active
zoneset name prod_2016-05-27_1600 vsan 5

#create zone
zone name V5K_TSM04-DISK-A vsan 5
#add Members
member device-alias v5k-c0p1
member device-alias v5k-c1p1
member device-alias TSM04-DISK-A

#mark active
zoneset name prod_2016-05-27_1600 vsan 5
#add zone into zoneset
member V5K_TSM04-DISK-A

#check if new zone available
show zoneset name prod_2016-05-27_1600 vsan 5

#activate
zoneset activate name prod_2016-05-27_1600 vsan 5
#check
show zoneset active vsan 5

#save
