Updating vCenter is always a pleasure … (Part 1 of 3)
Do you also have some concerns before updating your vCenter? For sure we all have a Plan and a Plan B, Plan C …, but there is always someting you didn’t considered or expected.
I would like to show you my Upgrade from 5.5 U3b to 6.0 U2.
Before every Update we have to think about the consequences for other Apps, Users and compatibility. So I always recommend to read the vCenter Server 6.0 Update 2 Release Notes.
So let’s check some things before:
- vSphere Update sequence
- vSphere Interoperability (eg. your SQL Version)
- Confused about the SQL Versions? What is SQL 10.50.6000? Check out here.
- Your Backup solution?
- Nexus 1000v Support?
- other 3rd Party Apps? (eg. ITSM Tool)
- Upgrade your vCenter License to Version 6 in the myVMware Portal
If you are clear with the prerequisites, move on to cleanup your vCenter DB in Part 2
